This historical neighborhood is near Lake of the Isles with its stately homes and tree-lined streets and Uptown, a hip area popular among Millennials for its multiple apartments, lively night scene, funky shops, and dining, making the area very inter-generational. The neighborhood is one of the most popular recreation destinations in the Twin Cities. Rent a paddle boat or canoe at nearby Lake Calhoun and enjoy paddling through the channel that connects Lake Calhoun to Lake of the Isles. Lake of the Isles is known for its islands and lagoons that are lush and green in the summer months. After you return your canoe, enjoy a fish taco at Tin Fish, in the refectory along the shores of Lake Calhoun. Bike, run, walk, or blade around the lake or along the Midtown Greenway, one of Minneapolis’ most popular paved trails (a 5.5-mile former railroad corridor), which runs through the southern part of the neighborhood and connects with the Mississippi River on the east. Exercise indoors during the winter at the local Uptown YWCA.  The finish line for the City of Lakes Loppet cross-country ski race is in the neighborhood, as is the prominent Uptown Art Fair, attracting close to 400,000 visitors each year and is ranked the #8 art fair in the nation.

BRYN MAWR:

Bryn Mawr was one of the first neighborhoods in Minneapolis promoted as a “garden suburb” in the mid-1800s because of its proximity to the lakes and abundant natural beauty. Steeped in Welsh influence, this neighborhood literally means “big hill” in Welsh. Theodore Wirth Park is close, boasting 759 acres of year-round recreational activities and natural resources, including a beach, an 18-hole golf course, groomed cross-country ski trails, a tubing hill, nature trails, picnic areas, and a Swiss-style chalet. Also nearby is the Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden and Bird Sanctuary. The neighborhood is easily accessible to Interstate 394 and is closely tied to Cedar Lake and to the Kenilworth Parkway, which connects the Chain of Lakes directly with downtown and Target Field. This neighborhood is home to young families and working professionals. Sparks, a neighborhood restaurant that has been awarded many accolades, houses a wood-burning oven that churns out seasonal delights and won’t hurt your wallet. It has a great beer and wine list, and has vegan/gluten-free options. Light rail transit (LRT) will soon be servicing this neighborhood.
